Commercial Vehicle Operations | This operational area presents regional efforts and initiatives to effectively manage multiple aspects of commercial vehicle operations including areas such as credentialing and administration as well as vehicle safety measures. |
Emergency Management | Incident and Emergency Management involves coordinated response to planned and unplanned incidents that result in localized or widespread disruptions to the regional transportation system. Using ITS technologies and coordinated response / communications, agencies throughout the region detect, respond, and manage incidents and emergencies to promptly restore the transportation system to normal operations. |
Maintenance and Construction Management | The Maintenance and Construction operational concept area manages the collection of road conditions, dissemination of planned construction and maintenance events, and weather information. |
Public Transportation | A wide variety of both private and government-owned agencies provide public transportation services in NYSDOT Region 8. This area provides operational background on the regional public transit stakeholder agencies and the services they perform. |
Traffic Management | Coordinated and efficient traffic management techniques assist in reducing congestion and roadway incidents through the use of various technologies and strategies. This area also places an emphasis on inter-agency coordination and information sharing to better manage roadways across multiple jurisdictions and authorities. |
Traveler Information | Traveler Information refers to the dissemination of any trip or route-related information provided to a traveler or potential traveler. This information may include real-time traffic conditions, construction information, weather information, emergency advisories and alerts, the availability and conditions of public transportation, and parking availability. |
Vehicle Safety | This operational area defines various advanced vehicle safety technologies that may be operational amongst regional stakeholders to detect and warn of potentially dangerous situations and/or improve driver behavior. |
